Padel level test: estimate your level from 0 to 7

Ten questions, about two minutes, no sign-up. At the end you see your level, your best shot and the one holding you back.

Padel levels from 0 to 7

The 0 to 7 scale is the one Playtomic uses and the one most clubs already understand. Here is how each band plays, with the letter clubs often use next to it.

  1. 0–1

    StarterClub: D

First matches. You rally slowly and a ball into the glass is usually lost.

  2. 1–2

    BeginnerClub: D

You get the ball back at a gentle pace and are learning to wait for the back-wall bounce.

  3. 2–3

    IntermediateClub: C

You hold rallies, play the back wall off slow balls and hit a basic bandeja.

  4. 3–4

    Upper intermediateClub: C+ / B

You direct forehand, backhand and volley at normal pace. Walls, lob and net play work; unforced errors remain.

  5. 4–5

    AdvancedClub: B / A

You control direction, depth and spin, choose between bandeja, víbora and smash, and compete hard at your club.

  6. 5–6

    CompetitionClub: A

Solid technique and a tactical head for high-pace matches. Federation tournament level.

  7. 6–7

    EliteClub: A+

Aggressive shots, very reliable defence and tactical range. National ranking; 7 is the pro tour.

How Playtomic levels work

Playtomic seeds your level with a questionnaire much like this test, then moves it with your results. Before each match it works out which pair should win from the levels of all four players. Beat a stronger pair and you climb a lot; win as expected and you barely move.

Only competitive matches count. Friendlies never change your level, however many you play. Reliability is how much the system trusts your number: with few matches it is low and your level jumps around, and it settles as you play.

For the full detail, read how padel rankings and ratings work.

Club letters: A, B, C and D

Many clubs and leagues group players by letter instead of number: D is a starter, C the intermediate player, B the advanced player and A the one who competes. Every club draws the lines its own way and some add a plus or minus (C+, B-), so the table column is a rough match. If your club uses letters, compare yourself with the players in your group rather than the exact number.

How this test works out your level

  1. Each shot answer is worth a level, from the weakest to the best: 0.5, 1.5, 2.25, 3.0, 3.75, 4.5, 5.5. The best answer is worth 6.0 if you play federation tournaments and 7.0 if you hold a national ranking or play the pro circuit.
  2. Your starting level is the average of the seven shots.
  3. Your context sets a ceiling: under 6 months of play, 2.5 at most; only friendly games, 4.5 at most; above 5.5 needs federation tournaments or higher; and 6.0 to 7.0 needs a national ranking or the pro circuit.
  4. The result is rounded to the nearest 0.25 and placed in its band: Starter below 1, Beginner 1 to 2, Intermediate 2 to 3, Upper intermediate 3 to 4, Advanced 4 to 5, Competition 5 to 6 and Elite 6 to 7.

The answers are written from the level descriptions Playtomic publishes and the Spanish Padel Federation categories. It is an estimate from your answers, not your Playtomic level.

Frequently asked questions

What padel level am I?

The quickest way to find out is the test above: ten questions about how your shots hold up and how you compete, giving a level from 0 to 7. It is an estimate. Your real level comes from your results against opponents of known level, match after match.

How do I move up a level on Playtomic?

Only competitive matches count, so friendlies will not move you. Play competitive matches regularly, look for opponents at your level or a little above (beating them lifts you more than beating a pair you were expected to beat) and make sure everyone confirms the result. With few matches your reliability is low and your level moves faster in both directions.

What is a level 3 in padel?

A level 3 is an upper intermediate player: forehand, backhand and volley go where they aim at normal pace, the back wall comes back reliably and the lob is used to take the net, but unforced errors are still common and finishing points is hard. Many clubs call this a C or C+ player.

Does this test give me my Playtomic level?

No. It is an estimate from your answers, not your Playtomic level. It uses the same 0 to 7 scale so you can compare, but your Playtomic level comes from your competitive matches in that app.

A test is an estimate. Your real level comes from your matches: log your group’s matches in Padellog.
